The U.S. will line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation rather than the 4-4-2 that has defined the Bradley era. The 4-2-3-1, featuring two defensive midfielders, three attacking midfielders and one striker pushed up high, was employed to great effect by Spain, Germany and others during this summer's World Cup.
