Carl Edwards ended a streak of futility stretching back 70 races and almost two years with a fuel-stretching victory Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway in the penultimate Sprint Cup race of the 2010 season.

Although Denny Hamlin dominated the race, Edwards, who started from the pole, came on at the end and took the lead with 47 laps to go. He then managed to conserve enough fuel to make it to the end when the race went green through the final laps.

"Boys, that's the way to end the streak right there," Edwards shouted on his radio after taking the checkered flag. "Wooooh! All right! We won!"

The victory capped off a winning weekend for Edwards, who also captured the Nationwide race at Phoenix on Saturday.

"Man, this is unreal," Edwards said in victory lane. "This Ford Fusion gets great fuel mileage, I can tell you that. I forgot what it was like to win a fuel mileage race except that feeling of the pit in your stomach during the last two laps.
