Shawne Merriman to Reportedly Be Waived by Chargers

Shawne Merriman appears to be joining Randy Moss on the waiver wire.

A day after the Vikings announced that they were going to waive the future Hall of Fame receiver, Jay Glazer reports that Merriman, the 2005 Defensive Rookie of the Year, would be taking a physical with the Chargers Tuesday. If he passes, the team will waive him. From there, the rest of the league will have 24 hours to place a waiver claim on the linebacker.

Merriman has been dealing with a calf injury, only playing three games this season with no impact. He's currently on the Chargers' injured reserve list with a "minor-injury designation." Because of that designation, the Chargers have to release him when he's healthy.
